Small grant awarded to Dr Brenda Kwambana-Adams
Congratulations to Dr Brenda Kwambana-Adams and collaborators for being awarded the UCL Global Engagement Funds! This UCL inititative supports new projects undertaken between UCL staff and collaborators in other countries. Brenda receives £1995 to organize a 5-day training workshop on laboratory diagnosis of meningococcal meningitis at the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) laboratories in Abuja, Nigeria. The goal of this workshop is to prepare laboratory scientists in epidemic areas, such as northern Nigeria, to better recognize cases of meningococcal meningitis and to isolate and identify the etiological agent(s). The training sessions will be led by scientists, clinicians and data managers from WHO, NCDC, PHE and UCL, and utilize a WHO meningitis training package covering the clinical, laboratory and data management aspects of meningitis outbreak responses.
