Start date: June 2019
This study seeks to determine if dysbiosis of the maternal vaginal microbiome (VBM) lead to adverse birth outcomes such as permaturity and low birthweight in a population of South African women delivering at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (CHBAH). Vaginal swabs for genotyping, as well as detailed demographic and clinical information will be collected at delivery to correlate the birth outcomes with the VMB composition and the clinical metadata.
Aim and Impact
To compare the composition of the vaginal microbiome between women who had a normal term deliver and those who had a stillbirth.
